The film’s business picked up massively on Saturday on the strength of word-of-mouth publicity and the fact that its competition in most markets is weak.
If trade insiders are to be believed, Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep’s Vikrant Rona is firmly enroute to breaking into the Rs 100-crore Box Office Club. With final day 3 figures yet to come in, the film may have already made it to Rs 100-crore, or will get there today without fail. Speaking to the media after the release of the film, producer Manjunath Gowda had clarified that he does not have the exact box office details from the overseas market and other areas where he has sold the rights outright. The overseas rights, for instance, had been sold for Rs 10 crore prior to the release.
Manjunath said that to his best knowledge, Vikrant Rona day 1 world-wide collection was between Rs 33 and Rs 35 crore, while day 2 was between Rs 22 and Rs 25 crore. The filmmaker reiterated that the overseas partners were not obliged to share figures with him, but have heeded his request and shared some information.
Yesterday, the buzz in industry circles was that bookings on Saturday, July 30, were a lot better than on Friday, especially in the domestic market. In fact, the film is believed to have outperformed all the other Hindi releases of the week. Conservative estimates peg Vikrant Rona’s world-wide collections at around Rs 30 crore, which is yet to be ascertained. This would put the film’s gross at close to Rs 90 crore. The makers are yet to sell the Hindi satellite and OTT rights of the film, so there’s a sizeable amount set to come in there too. It would be safe to say that by end of July 31, the makers of Vikrant Rona would be ‘safe’ on their investment and begin to enjoy profits. According to reports, the film was made at an estimated Rs 70-75 crore, although, it is being said that the delays in production and release pushed the budget up to Rs 95 crore (including interest).
