Kiccha Sudeep says his dedication to entertain is not with the expectation of awards

Late on January 22, the Karnataka State Film Awards for 2019 were announced, with Kiccha Sudeep adjudged Best Actor for his work in director S Krishna’s Pailwaan. The recognition comes more than 2 decades after he last won for Nandhi and even as congratulations continued pouring in for the award, the actor has chosen to politely turn it down.

In a social media post, Sudeep said that his dedication to entertaining people has never been with the expectation of an award and that this acknowledgement from the jury boosts his confidence to strive for excellence. However, given that he decided to stop receiving awards many years ago, he will uphold the same and not accept the state award.

“There are many deserving actors who have poured their hearts into their craft and would appreciate this prestigious recognition far more than I would. It will only make me happeier to see one of them receiving it,” wrote Sudeep, along with an apology to the jury and the state government for any disappointment his decision may have caused.

Sudeep, who is currently basking in the success of his latest release, Max, is prepping for his next, Billa Rangaa Baasha, with Vikrant Rona maker Anup Bhandari, which will take up a considerate amount of time, as it is being made in two parts. Before that, this weekend, he will, for the last time, host the grand finale of Bigg Boss Kannada.

After 11 seasons of being the face of the popular Kannada reality show, Sudeep recently announced that he was stepping away from the responsibility, citing difficulties in managing schedules when he has to travel between shooting locations and the Bigg Boss Kannada stage.

The actor has also been vocal about his changing priorities, stating that he foresees himself playing lead hero for another 2-3 years tops, which gives him a finite idea about the number of films he has left in him. Supporting actor roles are not on the cards for him, he had said, adding that he will remain in cinema, but in different capacities behind the camera.
