Kiccha Sudeep: I knew Darshan would be at Sumalatha’s party; happy we were on stage together

Sudeep said that just because he and Darshan met at a public event does not mean that all is okay between them.

A few days ago, on the occasion of actress and politician Sumalatha’s birthday, the biggest news to emerge from the party was that former friends Darshan and Sudeep, who have not been on talking terms for many years, were seen together on stage to wish her. While Darshan and Sudeep have been at public events in the past, they’ve always co-ordinated their entries and exits in such a way so as to avoid each other. So, the fact that they were both at the do at the same time was seen as a sign of better days ahead for the two actors, as far as their personal equation goes.

This ‘meeting’ incidentally, came only days after Darshan had extended a public apology to the media in the hope of forgetting and forgiving the events that led to him being banned in mainstream publications. The impasse between Darshan and the media was sorted out with producer Rockline Venkatesh serving as mediator. Venkatesh was at the forefront of Sumalatha’s party too and was seen ensuring that Sudeep and Darshan were on the stage with her at the same time. However, soon after visuals of this coming-together of the two industry biggies happened, media went into overdrive suggesting all was well between them.

But then, Darshan took to social media with a post implying that happiness lay in being alone and that all he needed was his celebrities (fans). This was presumed to be the star’s not-so-subtle response to the reports of a reconciliation between him and Sudeep. Earlier today, on the occasion of his birthday, Sudeep spoke to the media, where the party and his ‘meeting’ with Darshan became an obvious talking point. Setting the record straight, Sudeep said that he has no hatred or anger towards Darshan, which is also why he had condemned the slipper attack on the latter during the promotions of Kranti. However, he asked the media not to expect that everything to be alright between the two of them just because they were at a public event together.

“Darshan has some questions and so do I and only when we find the right answer to them will things become okay. This will not happen overnight; it will take time,” he said, adding, “Sumalatha is a special person to me; I’ve known for a long time, so her party was a comfortable zone for me. I knew Darshan was going to be. We have respect for each other. We were seeing each other face-to-face after 6-7 years. I was happy we were on stage together.”
