Khufiya actress Azmeri Haque Badhon created a sort of history in Bangladesh. She became the first woman in Bangladesh to get full custody of her child after her divorce. The court gave the verdict on April 22. Bangladesh High Court also ordered to formation of a committee with specialists who could make a set of rules regarding the guardianship of a minor child. The court ordered the Women and Children Welfare Ministry and the National Human Rights Commission to submit the report by August 4.

Badhon is the only mother in Bangladesh who got full custody. The joint division bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kaji Jinat Haque passed this verdict. According to the law, if a minor child’s father is alive then no one else can be the child's guardian. High Court asked whether this law conflicts with the 26th, 27th, and 28th Amendments of the Constitution.

On April 30, 2018, Badhon received guardianship of her only child Mishael Amani Sayera by the verdict was given by Dhaka’s 12th District and Session Court’s Assistant Judge Israt Jahan. Badhon, at that time, told the media that she was happy that the process of change started and this was not only her win but the win of everyone, and she wanted Bangladeshi women to have full custody of their children. “I don't want to be only my achievement. I want it for every Bangladeshi mother,” she told Bangladeshi media.

Badhon further said, “I brought up my kid. Then why should not I get custody? It was proved in the court that the father did not carry any responsibility.”

Badhon said she did not fully understand the verdict’s importance six years back when she got the guardianship and started understanding it over time. She said that it was an exceptional struggle that was fought by many people together.
