Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan the sequel to the 2010 film Khichdi: The Movie, hit the big screens a week after Diwali 2023. The family comedy film is now ready for its OTT premiere after completing almost two months of its theatrical run. Yes, the Aatish Kapadia directorial is set to stream on ZEE5 beginning February 9, 2024. For the uninitiated, Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Jamnadas Majethia, Vandana Pathak, and Supriya Pathak Kapur make up the lead cast of the film. Following 2010's Khichdi: The Movie, it serves as the fifth and latest entry in the Khichdi franchise.

A comedic covert mission

Intelligence agencies enlist a dysfunctional family to free a scientist imprisoned in another nation in this outrageous comedy with silly suicide references. The Thodi Intelligent Agency (TIA) has dispatched the Parekh family on a covert mission to Paanthukistan, a poverty-stricken nation ruled by a tyrannical king who bears an uncanny resemblance to Praful Parekh! The group's objective is to prevent the creation of a devastating biorobot weapon by an Indian nuclear scientist currently in prison and to abduct the king simultaneously.

Box office performance

According to Sacnilk, Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan made Rs 1.1 crore on its opening day of release at the domestic market. The film's total Hindi occupancy on Friday was 21.48 percent. The film's initial occupancy rate in the Hindi market was 12.14% during morning shows. Nonetheless, the percentages steadily rose during the day, peaking at 27.47% in the evening shows and 18.91% in the afternoon shows. However, the proportion fell to 27.38 for the night screenings, a small decline. An industry watcher, however, predicted that the film's performance would drop this Saturday, with the domestic market expected to earn only Rs 25 lakh.

Khichdi was the first Indian television series to have its story adapted into a Bollywood film. It was one of the first seasons to air. The second instalment, Instant Khichdi aired in 2004, followed by Khichdi: The Movie in 2010, and in 2018, with a new plot, the Khichdi Returns series debuted on STAR Plus.
