Arjun Ashokan will be seen two diametrically-opposite roles in two theatrical releases this week
Malayalam actor Arjun Ashokan’s star is definitely on the rise. The actor has been part of some of the biggest surprise hits since the pandemic including Jan.E.Man and Romancham – proving that he has a knack for being part of the content that works with the audience.
After Pranaya Vilasam last month, the actor will have two theatrical releases on March 10 – director Rajeev Ravi’s much-anticipated Thuramukham and Maxwell Jose’s feel-good comedy entertainer Khali Purse of Billionaires.
Thuramukham reportedly has him essaying a pivotal character, whose journey forms the heart of the film that deals with the chappa system and the protests to abolish the inhuman practice in 1953. While the period film has actors such as Nivin Pauly, Joju George, Indrajith Sukumaran, Darshana Rajendran and Poornima Indrajith, Nivin, in an exclusive interview with us, said that Arjun’s character of a labourer struggling to make ends meet, stands apart.
“My character Moidu is the film’s anti-hero. The audience would probably love Arjun Ashokan’s character more in the film and despise mine. People would wonder why my character is behaving this way, but Moidu has his own justification for that,” said Nivin.
Meanwhile, Khali Purse of Billionaires has Arjun essaying a failed entrepreneur. The movie’s director Maxwell had earlier told us, “While the film’s leads, played by Aju Varghese and Dhyan Sreenivasan, resort to malpractices to push their start-up, Arjun’s character is a failed entrepreneur who never took the easy way out. He has accepted that he has failed and is at ease with that.”
Arjun’s previous release Pranaya Vilasam, which also has Anaswara Rajan and Mamitha Baiju, had collected Rs 2Cr from the box office and is set to begin streaming on ZEE5 soon. His next OTT release, however, is expected to be Jithu Madhavan’s horror-comedy Romancham, which will drop on Disney+ Hotstar by the end of this month.
