KGF2 on Prime: Early access video-on-demand ends; Yash-starrer to return to streamer on June 3

Earlier today, Amazon Prime Video finally gave fans the good news they were waiting for – KGF Chapter 2 on Prime (at no additional cost), but removed the film from its store.

Pretty much every one who was invested in the story of Rocky Bhai and his ascent to becoming the greatest criminal of his time has seen KGF: Chapter 2 in theatres. The film has, after all, scooped up a massive Rs 1,200 cr + in collections since it hit movie halls on April 14. Nevertheless, the big question that remained was – when will KGF2 be available on OTT? There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding the date, and then, all of a sudden, the film appeared on Amazon Prime Video, its digital partner, albeit in a pay-per-view format.

Prime Video’s newly-launched Video-on-demand scheme gives subscribers and non-subscribers early access to premium titles at a cost. Subscribers, of course, were incensed, because it would be an additional burden, over and above the annual subscription cost. Several threatened to not renew subscriptions to the platform if the rental option was anyway available to non-members too. Eventually, when the film popped up on the Prime Video Store, KGF: Chapter 2 occupied spots 1-4 on the top 10 rentals in India for several days, which was testimony that there was a large section of audience that had not seen the film in theatres.

The call to make KGF2 ‘free’ to subscribers of Prime Videos did not die down and today, the streaming platform finally gave fans the answer they were looking for. KGF: Chapter 2 would be available to stream for ‘free’, from June 3, when the film celebrates 50 days at the box office. Soon after the announcement, the film was removed from the video-on-demand store.

Since the announcement from Prime Video, it seems that all is forgiven. Fans are happy and KGF2onPrime is trending for all the right reasons. Now, all you’ve got to do is wait a couple of days to enjoy all the action from the explosive blockbuster, starring Yash in the lead, along with Srinidhi Shetty, Prakash Raj, Raveena Tandon, Sanjay Dutt, among others.
