Production house maintains that the date was chosen to avoid a clash with some of the big-ticket releases of the month, including RRR
Earlier today, Hombale Films, the banner backing the magnum opus KGF franchise, revealed the trailer release date for the upcoming sequel, KGF: Chapter 2. Fans who have been eagerly waiting for news on the trailer, given that Hombale Films had run a poll asking them what they wanted to see first from KGF 2, were left with mixed emotions after the announcement though. While on the one hand they were happy it’s coming out, on the other, a wait of another 24 days seemed baffling to them, given that the film would then come out just over two weeks later.
“Why so late?” was the common refrain from fans, adding that answering the poll with the option as trailer seemed like a mistake now. If the trailer is the first promotional material to be released for KGF: Chapter 2, fans wondered if that would leave enough time for the team for the rest of the promotions, ahead of the film’s April 14 release.
In a statement released along with the trailer date, Hombale Films asserted that it was the polite thing to do, by avoiding a clash with all the films releasing in March. Calling the delay a bold move, Hombale Films stated that considering the fanfare and emotions surrounding KGF: Chapter 2 , it’s already in the reckoning of a blockbuster.
Fans, meanwhile, said that unlike KGF: Chapter 1, for which the team went all out with promotions to ensure maximum visibility and reach and in building brand KGF, the team was taking it easy because they believe they have a failproof product in hand that will work at the box office no matter what. They also reckoned that Hombale Films should have released the trailer earlier and clubbed it along with any one of the big releases of the month. The banner, though, said that it was a strategic move to not club the KGF: Chapter 2 trailer with any other film and instead go solo.
