The Prashant Neel directed sequel in the KGF saga released in theatres today and sources say that the Hombale Films’ deal with the streaming giant is not for 30-days post release, but 50-days instead.
Even as the whole world appears to be making a beeline to theatres to catch Rocking Star Yash’s most anticipated KGF: Chapter 2, the question of when it will make its way to OTT has also been gathering steam. It’s been known that the digital rights of the Prashant Neel directorial, produced by Hombale Films, had been acquired by Amazon Prime Video, although the date on which it will drop on the platform has not been disclosed yet.
According to reports KGF: Chapter 2 is expected to be available to stream on or before 30-days from its theatrical release date. Considering that KGF: Chapter 2 released in theatres today, April 14, which will make May 13 the probable date. However, a source close to the film’s team tells us that given the popularity of the franchise and its potential for a long theatrical run, Hombale Films has struck a 50-60 day from release deal with Amazon Prime Video. If that is indeed true, KGF: Chapter 2 will begin streaming on the platform only in early June or latest mid-June.
The latter option was recently affirmed by a source from the team of the film Lucky Man, as they were considering a May 20 theatrical release date, which would put their 30-day deal with the same platform too close to the release of KGF: Chapter 2, a clash they wanted to avoid. This is an interesting development, though, that filmmakers not only actively avoided a box office clash with the Yash-starrer, but are now also calculating OTT release dates
KGF: Chapter 2, was supposed to be the second and final chapter of the KGF saga, but the makers today teased the possibility of yet another instalment, KGF: Chapter 3, in a post-credit scene. The film, which has opened to record box office numbers also stars Srinidhi Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Ramesh Rao, Prakash Raj, BS Avinash, Tarak Ponnappa, Malavika Avinash, TS Nagabharana, John Kokken, Saran Sakthi, Archana Jois, among others.
