The much-anticipated second instalment of Rocking Star Yash’s KGF saga is set to release in theatres on April 14.
KGF fever has begun to sweep over Karnataka and how. With well over three weeks to go for the Yash starrer KGF: Chapter 2 to come to theatres, fans have already begun speculating its box office might. Social media is abuzz with predictions and various permutations and combinations, considering that the film will have competition in the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi markets.
When KGF: Chapter 1 released as a pan-India project, Rocking Star Yash was a newbie in all the other markets that the film went to. But on the strength of the content of the Prashant Neel directorial and Yash’s star power, it is believed to have amassed a whopping Rs 250 crore (approx.) at the box office. KGF: Chapter 1’s good showing also ensured that the second part in the KGF saga is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Today, everyone knows about KGF and its leading man Yash, unlike back in 2018. Back then, in the run-up to KGF: Chapter 1’s release, Yash and the team of the film had embarked on a massive promotional tour, including its trailer launch in Bengaluru that was attended by media from across the country. Yash travelled to all the centres where the film was releasing and that made all the difference.
Today, KGF or Yash need no introduction and fans across the globe are waiting with bated breath for the film’s release. No wonder, then, that industry insiders and fans have begun predictions for the film’s box office collection. KGF: Chapter 2, says a Kannada box office tracking site, will amass Rs 500 crore, a figure that many fans agreed with, while several others pegged it higher, with a select few saying it could be difficult to get to Rs 500 crore.
The box office tracking site breaks down this Rs 500 crore, with almost half of it coming from Karnataka and the other half split between Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. In fact, in this half, a lion’s share is expected to come from the Hindi belt. The reasons cited are that in Tamil Nadu, Vijay’s Beast is releasing on April 13, while in Andhra and Telangana, Chiranjeevi’s Acharya and Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata, will be major competition. Although there are Bollywood films like Jersey, Runway 34 and Heropanti 2 coming out between April 14 and 29, industry insiders are confident of KGF: Chapter 2 doing well in the Hindi belt.
Produced by Hombale Films, the Hindi version of KGF: Chapter 2 is being presented by Ritesh Sidhwani & Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment and AA Films.
