KGF 2, Beast have solid first weekend collections in Kerala; Yash-starrer crosses Rs 20 crore mark

Ahead of the release of Vijay’s Beast and Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2 in Kerala, the Tamil action comedy was expected to come up trumps. But the first weekend numbers of both the movies in the state are unexpected.

According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, Beast has collected Rs. 9.80 Crore in its first 5 days while KGF: Chapter 2 minted an impressive Rs. 28 crore in its first 4 days in Kerala. While the state is known for having a massive fanbase for Thalapathy Vijay, Beast’s collections took a hit following mixed to negative reviews.

Beast reportedly collected over Rs. 6 crore on its opening day in the state, making it the second highest grosser on opening day in Kerala. But the momentum has shifted since, with Yash’s period action thriller receiving rave reviews.

KGF: Chapter 2 has ended up the winner, but not just in the state of Kerala. The movie has collected over Rs. 500 crore across the world in all languages and also reportedly became the fastest entrant to the Rs. 200 crore club.

Directed by Prashanth Neel, KGF: Chapter 2 stars Yash, Sanjay Dutt, Srinidhi Shetty, Raveena Tandon and Prakash Raj. The movie follows Rocky on his rise as the most wanted criminal in the country after the events of the first movie.

Beast, which is backed by Kalanithi Maran, is written and directed by Nelson. The movie, which was also released in Hindi as RAW, stars Vijay as a former RAW agent who is trapped in a mall taken hostage by terrorists.

KGF: Chapter 2 and Beast, which were released on April 14 and April 13 respectively, are available in theatres around the world.
