Kerala State Film Awards 2022: Mohanlal, Mammootty’s films in the running; winners to be announced today

Kerala State Film Awards 2022: Mohanlal, Mammootty’s films in the running; winners to be announced today

The winners of the 52nd Kerala State Films, one of the most prestigious awards in the field of cinema, will be announced today. The Minister of Culture, Saji Cherian, will announce the winners of various categories at 5 pm.

2021 saw a long list of quality films from the Malayalam film industry, even amidst the peak of the coronavirus and lockdown. Filmmaker and screenwriter Saeed Akhtar Mirza is heading this year’s jury. 142 movies, which were submitted, were seen by the jury, out of which 45 were chosen for the final rounds.

This year’s state awards will also see two father-son duos and their films compete for awards in various categories. Mohanlal’s Drishyam 2 and Mammootty’s Priest and One are in competition. Movies from Pranav Mohanlal and Dulquer Salmaan are also in contention.

Manju Warrier, Nimisha Sajayan, Parvathy Thirvothu, Darshana Rajendran, Rajisha Vijayan, Urvashi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Anna Ben, Surabhi, and Kalyani Priyadarshan have all been nominated for the Best Actor Female category.

In the Best Actor Male category, Indrans, Suraj Venjaramoodu, apart from Mohanlal, Mammoothy, Dulquer Salman and Pranav Mohanlal have all been nominated. Jayasurya, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, and Joju George are also among male actors who are in contention for the award.

Guru Somasundaran, the Tamil actor who played the main antagonist in Basil Joseph’s superhero flick Minnal Murali, has also been nominated in the Best Actor Male category.

Joji directed by Dileesh Pothan has also helped Fahadh Faasil to compete for the award. The actor-director duo has previously delivered Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, both of which have won at the Kerala State Film Awards.

Among films going for the big awards are Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Hridayam, Manoj Kana’s Khedda, Tara Ramanujan’s Nishidho, Sherry’s Avinovilona, and Rojin Thomas’ Home.
