The Fast & Furious universe has been one of the most beloved and followed recurring franchises, remaining relevant for over two decades. As it now moves toward the end with a finale in the works, the world has been hooked for a very long time. While the main storyline was the primary focus, the franchise soon branched out, leading to the creation of Hobbs & Shaw. This new spinoff, away from Vin Diesel’s team, featured Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, alongside Jason Statham and Idris Elba. The movie was produced on a massive budget and scale, allowing filmmaker David Leitch to attempt some of the wildest things. With The Rock by his side, almost everything Leitch asked for was becoming possible—except for a Keanu Reeves cameo.

Keanu Reeves Cameo in Hobbs & Shaw?

Yes, we subtly hinted at the crux of this trivia. If you're not already shocked, amid the many cameos that populated Hobbs & Shaw, the Fast & Furious spinoff, filmmaker David Leitch and his star The Rock were actually looking for a Keanu Reeves cameo. Considering Reeves is one of the biggest action stars and Leitch's history of working with him on John Wick, it's clear why they wanted him so badly. Unfortunately, that didn't come to fruition. Here’s what the filmmaker and Johnson had to say.

It is indeed true that the makers of Hobbs & Shaw were eyeing Keanu Reeves for a surprise cameo, and The Rock was even in conversations with the John Wick star. But things never fell into place, and it never happened. According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Leitch, the director of the Fast & Furious spinoff, said, “We even talked in the post, and I showed him a rough cut of the movie. Then, we had conversations about 'is there something here?' We came to the conclusion of 'let's put a pin in it.' I'm all for finding opportunities, but I also didn't want to force anything.”

Here's What The Rock Said

Dwayne Johnson, who was also keen to bring Keanu Reeves on board, spoke about why it did not happen. He explained that the cameo was not fitting right creatively, which led to them not going ahead with it. However, The Rock also mentioned that there are chances for this to happen in the future. “Originally, Keanu was the goal. We were talking, and it just didn’t feel right creatively. …He and I talked, and I totally got it. And it wound up being the best thing, so now we leave that open for the future,” said The Rock in an interview with Screen Rant.

Nevertheless, Hobbs & Shaw was made and turned out to be a wild ride that impressed fans. Talking about cameos, the movie did score some very interesting ones, with Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart being the most prominent. The Fast & Furious spinoff is available on Sony LIV for rent, and you can access it with your OTTplay Premium subscription.
