Kasargold, directed by Mridul Nair, will be available to stream on Netflix from October 13
Asif Ali forayed into acting with crime dramas like Apoorvaragam. He has showcased his versatility by portraying both the boy-next-door characters and serious roles. In Kasargold Asif plays an eccentric character, reminiscent of his previous roles in crime dramas. Directed by Mridul Nair, Kasargold had a theatrical release on September 15. Ahead of the film’s OTT release, let’s take a look at some of Asif’s most memorable crime thrillers.

1. Hi I’m Tony - Sun NXT
Directed by Jean Paul Lal, Hi I’m Tony revolves around an incident that takes place in a flat in Bengaluru, over the course of a day. Sameer (Asif) and Mia (Miya George) elope to the city and somehow manage to secure an apartment owned by their close friend, Achayan (Biju Menon). On their first night in the flat, a man named Tony comes to their apartment and becomes friends with them. However, the couple soon notices something peculiar about Tony and the events that follow form the plot. The film contains scenes of gruesome violence and a chilling screenplay, making it a horror thriller.
2. Underworld - Amazon Prime Video
Underworld is helmed by Arun Kumar Aravind, who is known for Left Right Left. The director follows the standard conventions of a gangster film. The film focuses on four main characters - Stalin John (Asif), Solomon (Lal Jr), Majeed (Farhaan Faasil) and Padmanabhan Nair (Mukesh). It’s the story of a corrupt politician, who is imprisoned and the events that unfold after his partner and two thugs decide to steal a large sum of money that unexpectedly falls into their lap. The haunting music score by Neha Nair and Yakzan Pereira is a highlight of the film.
3. Unnam: Amazon Prime Video
This movie is a remake of the 2007 Bollywood film Johnny Gaddaar which Sriram Raghavan had directed. Unnam tells the story of five friends, who hope to make some quick cash by purchasing a shipment from a narcotics department officer. The plot revolves around a betrayal within the group, and how their plan goes wrong. The film’s storyline is unpredictable, with standout performances from Asif, Nedumudi Venu, Rima Kallingal and Shweta Menon. Prashant Narayanan delivers a standout performance as the owner of a casino club in the film directed by Sibi Malayail.
4. Bachelor Party - Disney+Hotstar
Bachelor Party directed by Amal Neerad, follows a group of five gangsters on their final mission. Tony (Asif), a former mobster, lives a peaceful life with his wife Neethu and newborn child in an old mansion. However, their world is threatened when vengeful underworld boss Prakash Kamath sends his henchmen to kill Tony. Tony’s childhood friends and fellow gangsters (Ayyappan, Fakeer, Benny and Geevarghese) arrive to protect him and ensure his safety.
5. Kooman - Amazon Prime Video
Kooman is a story that follows an egotistic policeman named Giri (Asif) and the various incidents that occur in his village. It portrays the challenges that Giri faces and his reactions to them. The film, directed by Drishyam fame Jeethu Joseph, is a psychological thriller. It is doubtful if anyone else can match the tailor-made role that perfectly suits Asif.
