Asif Ali is gearing up for the release of his action entertainer, Kasargold, which is helmed by Mridul Nair. In a recent interview, the actor and director opened up about a film that they had announced earlier called Thattum Vellattam.
In an interview with Club FM, Mridul revealed that Thattum Vellattam centres on the traditional art form of theyyam in Northern Kerala. He also mentioned that, as part of the film's preparations, Asif was taken to various places in disguise to witness different types of theyyam. This exercise lasted for 15 days, after which the crowd recognised Asif's wife, Zama Mazrin, leading to the end of the exercise.

Thattum Vellattam was delayed due to Kantara
Asif said that the team was about to start pre-production work in 2020 but had to postpone it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite trying to resume work after the pandemic-induced lockdowns, they had to defer the pre-production yet again because of the release of the Kannada film Kantara as both the films had similarities in its theme. "Thattum Vellattam is one of my dream projects, and it will happen," Asif said.
About Kasargold
Kasargold also stars Sunny Wayne and Jailer villain Vinayakan in lead roles, along with Asif. Malavika Sreenath, known for Joju Geroge's Madhuram, is the female lead in the film. According to Mridul, the film draws inspiration from a news clipping about gold smuggling in Kerala. Going by the trailer Kasargold looks like an action-packed film with vibrant visuals.
The film is shot mostly in parts like Kasargod, Kannur, and Goa, and is bankrolled by Yoodlee Films, which produced films like Kaapa and Padavettu.
Kasargold will be released in theatres on September 15.
