Kartik Aaryan’s Freddy to have a direct-to-digital release on THIS OTT platform?

The makers of the film are reportedly in talks for a deal worth Rs 70 crore with a major OTT platform.

After witnessing massive big screen success with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 Kartik Aaryan is headed back to the OTT route for his next film, Freddy. It was reported that the makers of the upcoming film are planning to release the film digitally and are in talks with a popular OTT platform at the moment.

According to a report in Mid Day, the makers of the film are currently in talks with Disney+ Hotstar for a deal worth Rs 70 crore. A source told the portal that the streaming giant and the film’s producers had been in talks for a couple of months, although the final paperwork for the same is yet to be finalized.

Freddy is touted to be a story of ‘love and obsession’ and the source hinted that the genre of the film was one of the reasons the makers were looking into a digital release. The source said that the success of direct to OTT films like Taapsee Pannu’s Haseen Dillruba, which became one of the most watched films on Netflix at the time of its release, gave off the idea that films involving a ‘sinister love story’ had a lot of takers on OTT. The trend reportedly convinced makers that Freddy, which fell into a similar genre, could also witness success as an OTT release.

The upcoming film will see Kartik share the screen with Alaya F and Jeniffer Piccinato. Shashanka Ghosh has directed the film.

Meanwhile, Kartik’s upcoming releases include Shehzada, which will see him star opposite his Luka Chuppi co-star Kriti Sanon. The film, which is the Hindi remake of Allu Arjun’s Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, is directed by Rohit Dhawan.

Kartik is also working on Sameer Vidwans’ upcoming film, Satyaprem Ki Katha. The movie will see him reunite with his Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 co-star Kiara Advani.
