Kartik Aaryan reveals Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal 2 helped him sign more films; here’s how

The 2020 film also starred Sara Ali Khan.

Through the course of his more than a decade long career, Kartik Aaryan, made a name for himself in Bollywood, with his stellar performances in films like Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Luka Chuppi, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and more. But his career also saw a few films that failed to leave an impression on audiences, and Imtiaz Ali’s Love Aaj Kal 2 was one of them. But it seems that despite the film’s failure, it played a crucial role in helping Kartik move ahead in his career.

During an interview with Film Companion, it was revealed that Kartik was offered three films after Love Aaj Kal 2’s release. Referring to it as ‘Imtiaz Ali’s magic’, the actor said that the film had given him the chance to explore different kinds of characters than the ones he had before. He was given a chance to prove his versatility through the roles he played in the film. The romantic drama saw Kartik portray a dual role.

Kartik believed that the film had given filmmakers the chance to see him in a new light. Until then, they were familiar with the actor’s work in films like Luka Chuppi, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety and Pati Patni Aur Woh. “But they had never seen me in a serious kind of character, who's in love and the way Love Aaj Kal was. That’s got to do with how he presented me, how he pushed me forward. That’s why a lot of filmmakers saw me in that light”, he added.

Love Aaj Kal 2 was the spiritual successor to the 2009 film of the same name featuring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Pdukone, which Imtiaz had also helmed. The 2020 film featured Sara Ali Khan as the female lead and is available for streaming on Jio Cinema and Netflix.
