The mystical thriller premiered on ZEE Telugu recently and has managed to keep the viewers glued to their screens all over again
The victorious run for Karthikeya 2 is not ending anytime soon. No, we're not discussing the film in terms of box office revenue, but its popularity on non-theatrical platforms - television and OTT. The Nikhil Siddhartha, Anupama Parameswaran starrer released in theatres in August and opened to a phenomenal response across five languages. Even after its OTT premiere on ZEE5 a few weeks ago, the result was similar, breaking several milestones in terms of viewing minutes on the platform.
Recently, the Chandoo Mondeti directorial had its world television premiere on ZEE Telugu and despite the wide release, availability on OTT platforms, it received a rating of 7.88. This is very impressive given how widely the film was watched by audiences in theatres and OTT in the last few weeks. The gripping screenplay, solid performances and its novel treatment have taken viewers by surprise all over again.
From pleasing audiences in theatres to OTT and now at home, the team is undeniably thrilled with the response to the television premiere. The film grossed well over Rs 120 crore at the box office acorss multiple languages. For the uninitiated, Karthikeya 2 was a sequel to the 2014 release Karthikeya, also a thriller that featured Nikhil, Swathi Reddy, Rao Ramesh and Jaya Prakash in crucial roles.
Karthikeya 2 is jointly produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Abhishek Agarwal under People Media Factory and Abhishek Agarwal Arts, while also starring Srinivas Reddy, and Harsha. Though some called this a propaganda film, the reviewers unanimously hailed its ability to engage audiences. The story revolves around a doctor Karthikeya and his life-changing trip to Dwaraka.
