The team announced the new release date at a press meet today
Karthikeya 2, despite enjoying immense love from audiences from all quarters, wasn’t spared from the industry politics surrounding its release. The film underwent many release date changes over the past weeks. Finally, the film is set to hit screens in five languages on August 13. Nikhil, Anupama Parameswaran play the lead roles in the film helmed by Chandoo Mondeti.
While the team was initially asked to push its release date from July 22 to August 12 to avoid a clash with Naga Chaitanya’s Thank You, it faced similar pressure from the team of Macherla Niyojakavargam to shift its release date from August 12. Honestly, they have done that, though it’s just by a day. Abhishek Agarwal and T Vishwa Prasad have produced the film in collaboration with ZEE Studios.
The film may lose out on the Friday advantage with its new release date, but given it’s an Independence Day weekend and Monday is also a holiday, there’s enough scope for Karthikeya 2 to shine. Moreover, the curiosity around the mystical thriller is higher among the audiences than Macherla Niyojakavargam, which appears to be a regular commercial potboiler.
Nikhil has constantly respected the intelligence of audiences post Swamy Ra Ra and this viewer-trust is likely to work in favour of Karthikeya 2. Chandoo Mondeti, barring an occasional faux pas like Savyasachi, has proven his credentials as a good storyteller. While Anupama Parameswaran’s skills as a performer need no introduction, the lineup boasts of many credible names like Srinivas Reddy, Viva Harsha, Praveen, Adithya Menon and Anupam Kher.
Another factor that should help Karthikeya 2 is the political climate across the country where religion has become the focus-point of most conversations. The team’s promotional drive, in collaboration with ISKCON, has also helped its cause. Karthik Gattamneni’s cinematography and the presence of Kaala Bhairava as the composer are the cherries on the cake.
