The film will have SJ Suryah, Raghava Lawrence and Nimisha Sajayan
If the buzz in the industry is to be believed, the shoot for Karthik Subbaraj's upcoming film Jigarthanda is all set to begin in Madurai in a few days. The muhurat puja for the film is said to take place in Madurai as the original film, Jigarthanda, too, was shot in Madurai (December 11). Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah will play the lead along with Malayalam actress Nimisha Sajayan of The Great Indian Kitchen fame. Jigarthanda 2 will mark her debut in Tamil. The official announcement of the film was made almost a month ago.
The original Jigarthanda was an action comedy that revolved around an aspiring filmmaker who wants to make a film on a real-life gangster. The star cast included Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Lakshmi Menon, Karunakaran and Guru Somasundaram. Music for the film was by Santhosh Narayanan, cinematography by Gavemic U Ary and editing by Vivek Harshan. The film turned out to be a massive hit and also bagged two National Awards, for the Best Supporting Actor for Bobby Simha and Best Editing for Vivek Harshan. Jigarthanda was later remade in Kannada with the same title, in Telugu as Gaddalakonda Ganesh and in Hindi as Bachchan Pandey.
Karthik Subbaraj had stated that the pre-production work for the film had already begun. He had revealed in an interview that Jigarthanda 2 will not be a sequel to the original film. He had also stated that the idea to make Jigarthanda 2 was conceived soon after his film Iraivi. In the meantime, Karthik Subbaraj has had a series of releases, including his productions Buffoon and Ammu. He has now penned the story for RC15, the Telugu political thriller directed by Shankar in his Tollywood debut. The film stars Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, SJ Suryah, Anjali, Jayaram to name a few.
