A midnight show that begins at 12.45am has been added in theatres after the response to the Muthaiya-directorial
Karthi and Aditi Shankar's Viruman has opened to packed theatres across the state. The rural entertainer, directed by Muthaiya, seems to have worked well with the audience, especially with the family audiences as it is set in the rural backdrop. The makers have now added a midnight show that begins at 12.45am, much to the delight of the fans. However, the reviews for the film are a mixed bag of positive and negative feedback. While many have called it a predictable film, some have stated that nevertheless the performances on screen are quite engaging.
However, this does not seem to have affected the box office collection as the film has collected Rs 8.2 crore on the opening day, which is said to be the career best for Karthi. While Karthi and Aditi Shankar were almost mobbed at the theatre they had gone to for the promotions, the FDFS also had Thalapathy Vijay's wife Sangeetha dropping by to watch the film. The makers also shared a video of fans dancing like there was no tomorrow at one of the theatres in Theni.
Viruman has an ensemble cast that includes Bharathiraja, Prakash Raj, Manoj Bharathiraja, Vadivukkarasi, Soori, Karunas, GM Sundar and Vaiyapuri to name a few. Music for the film is by Yuvan Shankar Raja. While the cinematography is by Selvakumar SK, editing is by Venkat Raajen. Suriya and Jyotika have bankrolled the film under the 2D production banner. Taking to his social media page, Suriya wrote, "Karthi’s #Viruman will be a wholesome family entertainer and we trust will be remembered for Long..! Special welcome to Aditi Shankar!! We need all your love!!! (sic)."
This is the second collaboration between Karthi and Muthaiya after their hit film, Komban, which was also a rural entertainer. The film marks the debut of Aditi Shankar, daughter of ace director Shankar.
