Even if it has been harder to get crowds to the movies, according to Karan Johar, the idea that Bollywood is over is "rubbish." The filmmaker, who is responsible for some of Hindi cinema's biggest hits, asserted that successful movies will always find an audience.

Johar told PTI that all of it is nonsense and a waste of time as good films always work. The box office success of Gangubai Kathiawadi and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is enormous. Even JugJugg Jeeyo performed well. The director also said that ineffective films have never and will never succeed.

Jug Jugg Jeeyo, the director's own production starring Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani, made nearly Rs 84 crore when it was released last month. Currently, Amazon Prime Video is streaming the movie.

The box office successes of Gangubai Kathiawadi and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 both exceeded Rs 100 crore, but these blockbusters were eclipsed by the enormous success of the South Indian movies Pushpa, RRR and KGF: Chapter 2.

The director expressed optimism for the upcoming slate of Bollywood movies, which includes films starring celebrities like Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Salman Khan.

Johar added that now, a lot of big movies are coming out. Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan, Brahmastra Rohit Shetty's movie Cirkus, and then a Salman Khan movie will round up the year. There is so much to anticipate, and they only need to generate the perfect stuff to do it because they have all the love.

The director, whose next film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani will be released in 2023, thinks it's difficult to live up to the expectations. He shared that it's getting harder and harder to bring people into movie theatres. To attain those numbers, one must ensure that your movie, trailer, and marketing campaign are exciting and maintain your good name. Johar said it might be stressful for them. However, it presents more of a challenge, and he enjoys them.

On Disney+ Hotstar, Johar is currently hosting the seventh season of his well-known chat show, Koffee With Karan.
