Ace filmmaker Atlee recently appeared at The Great Indian Kapil Show to promote his upcoming film, Baby John starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi. However, the episode has been facing backlash as a section of social media users criticized Kapil Sharma’s question about Atlee’s appearance. After facing a backlash on social media, Kapil has finally responded to the allegations. He denied insulting Attlee and urged people to watch the interaction and judge for themselves.

Kapil Sharma denies insulting Atlee

On December 17, Kapil Sharma reacted to a social media user’s post on X (formerly Twitter), which read, “Kapil Sharma subtly insults Atlee’s looks? Atlee responds like a boss: Don’t judge by appearance, judge by the heart. #Atlee #KapilSharma." The video of Atlee’s interaction with Kapil Sharma on the show was also attached to the tweet.

Responding to it, Kapil Sharma wrote, “Dear sir, can you pls explain me where n when I talked about looks in this video ? pls don’t spread hate on social media thank you. (guys watch n decide by yourself, don’t follow any body’s tweet like a sheep)."

What did Kapil Sharma say at TGIKS episode?

During the episode, Kapil asked Atlee if it ever happened that he went to meet a star for the first time, and they didn’t recognize him.

In response, Atlee said, “In a way, I understood your question. I’ll try to answer. I’m actually very thankful to AR Murugadoss sir. Because he produced my first film. He asked for a script, but he didn’t see how I’m looking, and whether I’m capable of it or not. But he loved my narration. I think the world should see that. By appearance, we should not judge, by heart you have to judge."

This whole matter did not sit right with a section of social media users and they bashed Kapil Sharma for 'insulting' the filmmaker.

Meanwhile, directed by Kalees, Baby John is an adaptation of Atlee's 2016 Tamil film Theri. Produced by Jio Studios, Cine1 Studios, and A for Apple Productions, the film is scheduled to be released on 25 December 2024.
