Kantara Hindi is now set to go past the Rs. 50 crores mark at the domestic box office.
A still from the Varaha Roopam song
Kantara Hindi had recently entered the elite list of the top 10 highest-grossing south Indian films of all time. The list refers to the films that have worked as dubbed versions in Hindi and the fact that Kantara now rubs shoulders with mighty blockbusters like Baahubali: The Conclusion and K.G.F: Chapter 2 only enunciates its success as a pan-India film.
And the film's great run doesn't just stop here as the Kantara Hindi surpasses the lifetime collections of K.G.F: Chapter 1 (Hindi). KGF 1 which had grossed over Rs. 238 crores at the global box office (all versions) during its theatrical run, had reportedly collected Rs. 44.42 crores (net) in Hindi. And now, according to the latest trade reports, Kantara's Hindi release has outperformed KGF 1 at the box office and has collected close to Rs. 45 crores (net) as of Monday, October 31.
By virtue of these numbers, Kantara is now the second most successful Kannada film as a Hindi dubbed version with KGF 2 taking the top position at Rs. 435.23 crores.
Kantara Hindi will now look to go past the Rs. 50 crores at the earliest and one can expect the film to achieve the new target in the next few days. The film too, combining the collections of all versions, is on the brink of grossing Rs. 300 crores worldwide and the same trade reports reveal that it is only a matter of a day or two before it becomes only the second Kannada film in history to do so.
While Kantara continues to perform well at the box office, there is considerable uncertainty regarding its OTT release. What was initially scheduled to happen on November 4, the unprecedented theatrical success meant that the makers, Hombale Films, had to rethink their digital release plans and one awaits an official word on the same. Many reports suggest that Kantara will premiere on OTT either sometime in mid-November or in the first week of December.
