Kantara cinematographer roped in for Dulquer Salmaan’s King of Kotha? Here’s all we know
Arvind Kashyap and Dulquer Salmaan

Even though Dulquer Salmaan’s straight Malayalam releases have been few and far between the past few years, there’s always a buzz when he does decide to come out with one. His previous movie Kurup and his upcoming film King of Kotha are the greatest examples.

The latter had wrapped up most of its principal photography last month. The team is currently shooting a few portions as part of the final patchwork in Kochi.

While the movie’s cast is loaded with star power from other industries, the crew too is not far behind. Nimish Ravi, who had also worked with Dulquer in Kurup, is the movie’s cinematographer but he won’t be cranking the camera for the patchwork portions. Instead, it will be Kantara DOP Arvind Kashyap.

Nimish is currently shooting for Mammootty’s game-thriller Bazooka, which is helmed by Deeno Dennis. King of Kotha isn’t Arvind’s first Malayalam movie either. The cinematographer had previously worked in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Vilayath Buddha, which is directed by Jayan Nambiar.

Kurup is expected to hit theatres during Onam this year. The movie, which is touted to be a neo-noir gangster actioner, also has Aishwarya Lekshmi, Chemban Vinod Jose, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Nyla Usha, Prasanna, Gokul Suresh and Shammi Thilakan as part of the cast.

The movie, which is set in the 80s and 90s, had most of its shoot in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. Manali and Chandigarh were its other locations. King of Kotha, which is scripted by Porinju Mariyam Jose writer Abhilash N Chandran, marks the directorial debut of veteran filmmaker Joshiy’s son Abhilash Joshiy.

The film, which is set in a fictional town called Kotha, will have Dulquer in multiple get-ups. In an earlier interview with us, Abhilash Joshiy had said that the movie has action, romance and emotions that would appeal to a wide range of audience. It’s also the most expensive film from Dulquer’s production company Wayfarer Films.
