The bumper opening of actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty’s Kannada film Kantara across all the locations that it released in pushed the makers to work on its ‘pan-global’ outing. Considering that Kantara is a story rooted firmly in the folklore of the Kundapura region in Mangaluru, Rishab was hell-bent on releasing it in Kannada only (including some Tulu dialogues) with English subtitles. His plan was to have dubbed versions only in time for the film’s OTT debut on Amazon Prime Video.

However, when the film began to do phenomenal business in its original version outside of Karnataka too, becoming the highest grossing Kannada film in some of these regions, there was a steadily increasing demand for the film to be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam for greater reach and cater to audiences who do not follow Kannada or English. The dubbed versions are slated to hit theatres starting this Friday, October 14, for which Rishab and team are currently on a promotional tour.

The Hindi version of Kantara will be in theatres on October 14 and Hombale Films, the banner that’s backed it, just announced that bookings for the same will open tomorrow, October 12. Fans of the film responded to the announcement and urged audiences in the Hindi belt to read up about daiva and Tulunadu traditions before making conclusions about Kantara. While the Telugu version is set to hit theatres a day later on October 15, no dates have been announced for Malayalam and Tamil yet.

Starring Rishab in the lead, Kantara also features Kishore, Sapthami Gowda, Achyuth Kumar, Prakash Tumminadu and Pramod Shetty, among others. The film has music by B Ajaneesh Loknath, the songs of which were made available to stream on all leading platforms today. The story of Kantara follows a man vs man and man vs jungle format and is the transformational journey of the protagonist, Shiva (Rishab).
