Kannur Squad: Here’s how Mammootty’s police role in Roby Varghese Raj’s thriller is different from his recent films

Kannur Squad, which is also produced by Mammootty, marks the debut directorial of cinematographer Roby Varghese Raj

This Vishu, the makers of Mammootty’s upcoming movie Kannur Squad revealed the second poster of the movie, which is also produced by the megastar. The film, which is helmed by Roby Varghese Raj, also has Dr Rony David Raj, Anees Nedumangad and Shabareesh Varma as part of the cast.

The poster revealed the characters from Kannur Squad, which is scripted by Dr Rony and Mohammed Shafi. The movie, which is touted to be an investigative thriller, has Mammootty’s character leading a group of police officers who specialise in tracking down and capturing elusive criminals.

Mammootty, in an interview, had revealed that he plays an assistant sub inspector in the movie. This is the first time this decade that he plays a cop below a sub inspector’s rank. His previous movies as a cop – Christopher, Kuttan and Unda – had him as an Additional Director General of Police, an IPS officer and as a sub inspector, respectively.

Kannur Squad, which was shot in Kerala and Maharashtra, had wrapped up its shoot last month in Wayanad. The movie marks the debut directorial of cinematographer Roby, who had previously worked in Mammootty-starrers such as The Great Father. The upcoming movie has Muhammed Rahil cranking the camera and Sushin Shyam handling the music department.

Meanwhile, Mammootty, who is currently in Dubai, is expected to join the sets of Deeno Dennis’ game-thriller next. The megastar, whose next release will be Surender Reddy’s Telugu action-thriller Agent, is set to join Deeno’s debut directorial in the last week of April.

In an earlier interview with us, Deeno said that the movie, apart from being a ‘mass’ thriller, has several interesting elements and will be mounted on a big scale with shoot locations in Kochi, Bengaluru and Coimbatore. The movie also has Gautham Vasudev Menon and Shine Tom Chacko as part of the cast.
