Mammootty starrer Kannur Squad’s box office collections in Kerala improved on Day 2, despite heavy rains across the state. The Roby Varghese Raj-directed investigative drama has collected around ₹2.75 crore on the second day. The makers ran extra shows around the state, with rain being a threat on Day 2, just like Day 1. Although there wasn’t much hype created before the release, the crime thriller seems to have impressed the audience at the cinemas. The film, which amassed a staggering collection of ₹6 crore worldwide on the first day, reportedly made around ₹12 crore on the second day.

Kannur Squad’s plot cast and crew

Kannur Squad is a police procedural that centres on an investigation team. The plot follows a group of gritty cops who travel through the country in a bid to arrest a few criminals. Mammootty plays ASI George Martin who leads the investigation team. It is the first time the superstar has played a police officer in a rank below sub-inspector. Inspired by real events, the title of the movie is the name of an existing squad in the Kerala Police Force.

The film is mostly shot realistically, with some commercial elements like the over-the-top action sequences added to it. Mammootty Kampany - that has previously backed projects like Rorschach and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam - has bankrolled Kannur Squad. The movie also features Vijayaraghavan, Azeez Nedumangad, Rony David Raj and Sunny Wayne in pivotal roles. The technical crew comprises Praveen Prabhakar (as editor) and Muhammed Rahil (as cinematographer).

Kannur Squad’s OTT release

SonyLIV has reportedly bagged the digital rights of Kannur Squad. To secure the rights, they have apparently paid the highest price for a Malayalam film so far. The film, which is currently enjoying a good run at the box office, is expected to stream on the OTT platform after the 41-day bar set by the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK).
