From rom-coms to campus capers and more, there's a lot of Kannada content this week

The February 9 weekend quite literally looks overwhelming with the sheer number of films releasing in theatres. There are 6 original Kannada films, as well as Tamil-Kannada bilingual one, all of which will jostle for space at the box office along with Ravi Teja’s Eagle, Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam, among others. On OTT also, there are a few big titles available this week, both original and Kannada dubbed ones.

Ondu Sarala Prema Kathe

Director Suni presents a musical love story with Vinay Rajkumar in the lead as an aspiring composer and his quest for the woman of his dreams. The film introduced RadhaKrishn fame Malika Singh in Kannada cinema, along with Swathishta Krishnan. Also on the cast are Bigg Boss Kannada 10 winner Karthik Mahesh, Rajesh Nataranga, Sadhu Kokila, Aruna Balraj, among others.

Juni

Dia-fame Pruthvi Ambaar is back with yet another love story with a twist. This time around, he’s Partha, a chef who runs a small café and falls in love with Juni (Rishika Naik), only to find out that she’s Mansi too, and suffers from dissociative identity disorder. Amid pressure from family to not have a relationship with a girl with a mental disorder, will love stand the test of time? The story is inspired by a real-life person.

Just Pass

Shri, Rangayana Raghu, Sadhu Kokila, Pranati BG, Suchendra Prasad, Prakash Tuminad, among others, are on the cast of this film about the trials that average students face in getting admission to good colleges.

Pranayam

Directed by Dattatreya S, Pranayam has Rajvardan in the lead in a story about a newly-married and certain tensions that crop up among them. The film also stars Naina Ganguly, Ragahava Nayak, Govinde Gowda, among others.

Naguvina Hoogala Mele

Sharanya Shetty and Abhi Dass lead this tale of long-distance romance and the challenges that come therewith. The film by Venkat Bharadwaj also stars Bala Rajawadi, Benaka Nanjappa, Girish Bettappa and Aasha Sujay.

Maaye and Company

According to the official synopsis of Maaye and Company, the film starring Arjun Kishore Chandra, Naveen, Yashashree and Anusha Anand revolves around the possibility that if social media is misused for selfish purposes, crimes may be committed.

This Tamil-Kannada bilingual has Ragini Dwivedi in the lead along with Ashok Kumar about the perils of online gaming, especially those involving money. What happens when the protagonist realizes that at the point of no return, it isn`t just a game, forms the crux of the story.

Kaatera

Challenging Star Darshan’s big hit Kaatera is still running in theatres, but the Tharun Sudhir Krishna film about the land reforms bill of the 70s, which also stars Kumar Govind, Aradhanaa, Rohith Pandavapura, Shruthi Krishna, Jagapathi Babu, among others, is headed to OTT now.

Bad Manners

Director Sukka Suri’s film was thought to be the comeback vehicle that Abishek Ambareesh deserved, but unfortunately for the actor, it was far from that. The film failed to make an impact at the box office and is now set for digital streaming. The film also has Rachita Ram, Priyanka Kumar, Tara, Sharath Lohithashwa on the cast.

Mahesh was paired with Sreeleela in the film, which also starred Ramya Krishnan, Jayaram, Murali Sharma, Sunil, Vennela Kishore, Meenakshi Chaudhary, etc.
