Salaar

Director Prashant Neel’s Prabhas-led Salaar Ceasefire, which is the first of a two-part story, releases this week. Made as a Telugu film for Hombale Films, Salaar Ceasefire will have a Kannada version as well, although, the number of screens and shows allotted to this are few and far between. Salaar is being promoted as a tale of two friends, who eventually become foes. Netizens have been speculating since the start of the film that Salaar is a much bigger remake of Ugramm, which is the feedback even after the teaser and the two trailers. The film also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Pramod, Tinu Anand, Jagapathi Babu, Shruti Haasan, Shreya Reddy, Garuda Ram, Naveen Shankar, Eashwari Rao, among others.

Tagaru Palya

Daali Dhananjaya’s third home production was meant to be on OTT on December 8, but didn’t drop until a good 10 days later. The actor-producer’s team claimed that there were technical issues. The film by debutant director Umesh K Krupa has Nagabhushana in the lead, in a tale about a religious tradition of animal sacrifice around a special occasion. The film also stars Rangayana Raghu, Amrutha Prem, Tara, Poorna Mysore, among others.

Platform: Amazon Prime Video

Toby

Raj B Shetty’s Toby, which he wrote, but didn’t direct, released in August this year, but did not get the box office reception the actor-filmmaker was hoping for. Raj had promoted Toby as a film that was bigger and more commercial than his earlier Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana was, but it turned out to be an emotional drama between a father and daughter, which then becomes a revenge saga. The film had not found a digital partner for the longest time and is now finally coming to OTT.

Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side B

The second of director Hemanth M Rao’s two-part film, Sapta Sagaragaache Ello Side B, picks up 10 years after the events of Side A, and features Manu (Rakshit Shetty) as a heavier set, world-weary man, having completed his 10-year jail sentence in a fatal hit-and-run case that he’d agreed to take the fall for, in exchange of a handsome payout. How he deals with the fallout of his decision and the impact that had on the love of his life, Priya (Rukmini Vasanth) is what Side B is all about.

Kuiko

This Tamil original satire led by Yogi Babu and directed by T Arul Chezhan, will be available with Kannada audio too. On OTT within a month of its theatrical outing, the film follows Yogi’s character, who makes a living as a camel herder for the Sultan in Saudi Arabia, and his return to India to conduct the last rites of his late mother, whose mortal remains are preserved in a mobile mortuary until his arrives.

Platform: Netflix

Falimy

When Anu’s (Basil Joseph) engagement is called off, his knee-jerk reaction is to take off on a road trip to Varanasi with his family in tow. The trip from Thiruvananthapuram to Varanasi, though, is far from smooth, with this 5-member dysfunctional family. Also starring Jagadish, Manju Pillai, among others.

Platform: Disney+ Hotstar

Curry & Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case

This true-crime documentary delves into the circumstances behind one of Kerala’s most talked about serial killing spree. Over 14 years, Jolly Joseph, a mother of two, is alleged to have murdered her mother-in-law, father-in-law, husband, husband’s uncle, future husband’s wife and toddler daughter, by lacing their food/drinks with cyanide. While Jolly remains in remand, as the case is still sub-judice, the documentary focuses on the people who were most affected by Jolly’s actions, including her son Remo, sister-in-law Reji and brother-in-law Rojo.
