Kanguva: Suriya’s character names revealed; period portions to have longer screentime?

Kanguva, the period fantasy action film which stars Suriya in the lead role, is gearing up for a November 2024 release. The actor is set to play a double role in the Siva directorial.

Kanguva, the period fantasy action film marks Suriya’s comeback to the big screens in a full-fledged role, after a very long break. The project, helmed by director Siva has been garnering attention with the high-voltage trailer which was released a few weeks back. Suriya is set to play a double role in Kanguva, as a tribal leader, and a modern man. As per the latest updates, the period portions will have a longer runtime in the film, while the present portions are less.

Suriya’s character names in Kanguva revealed

If the recent updates are to be believed, Suriya is playing the titular character KanguvaSuriya is playing the titular character Kanguva a fearless warrior who leads a tribe that lives in a medieval fantasy world, in the period portions of the film. The National Award-winning actor’s second character in the film is reportedly named Francis. According to the grapevine, Francis, who appears in the present portions of Siva's directorial, is a fun-loving man who has a great humour sense, unlike the fierce Kanguva.

Kanguva’s period portions to have longer screentime?

According to the latest updates, the final theatrical version of Kanguva has a total runtime of around 2 hours and 25 minutes. Interestingly, the team members recently revealed that the period portions have a duration of around 2 hours, and it is the key focus of the Suriya starrer. The present portions in the Siva directorial, which are expected to have a comedy and romance track, will have a screen time of less than 25 minutes.

In that case, it is safe to assume that Disha Patani, who appears as the female lead opposite Suriya in the Siva directorial, might not have much screentime in the film. The character played by Bobby Deol has been kept under the wraps. But the Kanguva trailer and the promotion stills confirm that the Bollywood star majorly appears in the period portions of the film. Devi Sri Prasad has composed songs and original score for the action spectacle, which is set to be released in eight languages across the globe.
