Kangana Ranaut in Emergency

Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency is scheduled to release in theatres this week, and unfortunately, Bangladesh is out of the list. While one might assume that it is because of the controversial content in the film, there's a lot more at play here. The real reason for Emergency release being banned in Bangladesh is something else. Find out...

Emergency released banned in Bangladesh because...

The internal conflicts and tension between India and Bangladesh are the real reason why Emergency release is banned in Bangladesh. A source confirmed the same to various portals, revealing that the ban is owing to the current dynamics between the two countries rather than the content of the film. Emergency is based on the time of Indira Gandhi's PM rule over India.

Talking about the changed dynamics, India faces challenges from most of its neighbouring countries including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, China, and the Maldives. All of the countries once shared friendly/cordial relations with India. Although a ban from the rest of the countries is natural, Bangladesh plays a crucial to the storyline about Indira Gandhi's tenure as India's PM.

Bangladesh formed under Indira Gandhi's rule

During the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, Indira Gandhi defied the US to intervene in the Indo-Pakistan conflict. India's involvement in the war led to the formation of Bangladesh. Emergency also touches upon the strong equation between Mahatma Gandhi and the father of Bangladesh, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He received India's support during the war, which became crucial to the story of Emergency.

Another reason that might have contributed to Emergency ban in Bangladesh

Although India and Pakistan's strong alliance is shown in Emergency, Rahman's assassination by Bangladeshi extremists also makes it to the film. This, many believe, has also contributed to the movie's ban in Bangladesh.

Emergency is inspired by Pupul Jayakar's autobiography. The movie stars Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as young Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Mahima Choudhary as Pupul Jayakar, and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.
