West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's statement

Amidst the hardcore protests, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already issued a claim to the Kolkata Police, declaring that the state will entrust the brutal rape-murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), if any development is not achieved by this week.

Following a meeting with the victim's family, the Chief Minister highlighted the state government’s commitment to expediting justice through a fast-track court trial. Reports on the vicious incident till now

It's been five days since the murder case has occurred, and Kolkata Police has cracked the case and arrested a civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy, after scrutinising CCTV footage and conducting an initial investigation. Roy, who was found intoxicated outside the hospital and subsequently confessed the crime, has been remanded to police custody until August 23.

Moreover, not only Roy, but the case has shaken up multiple high-ranking hospital officials getting suspended for their negligence and misconduct of their duty, transpiring a comprehensive inquiry into the administrative failure that contributed to the tragic incident.
