For those who have been waiting long to watch Malayalam movies such as Kammara Sambhavam and Clint won’t have to wait much longer. Jio Studios announced on Monday that it will be releasing six Malayalam movies on Jio Cinema as part of its movie marathon titled Malayalam Mojo, starting June 18.

Kicking this off will be the big-budget Rosshan Andrrews directorial Kayamkulam Kochunni, which has Nivin Pauly and Mohanlal in the lead. The period drama, written by National Award-winning scriptwriters Bobby and Sanjay, revolves around Kayamkulam Kochunni (Nivin), a Robin Hood of sorts, and his fight for the poor and downtrodden.

On June 19, the OTT service will release Dileep and Siddharth’s Kammara Sambhavam, which is directed by Rathish Ambat and scripted by Lucifer fame Murali Gopy. The movie, which is a rather subversive look at biopics, revolves around a conniving man named Kammaran (Dileep) whose life changes years later when a biopic is made on him, twisting history and his role in the freedom struggle, and thereby propelling him to the limelight.

On June 25, the acclaimed film Clint, which tells the story of real-life child prodigy Edmund Thomas Clint, will begin streaming. The movie has Master Alok in the lead role and has Unni Mukundan, Rima Kallingal and Vinay Forrt in supporting roles.

Puzhayamma will mark the platform’s first direct-to-OTT Malayalam release. The movie, directed by Vijeesh Mani who had earlier helmed Jayaram’s Namo, is based on the friendship between a 13-year old-girl Baby Meenakshi and an American tourist Linda Arsenio and the hurdles they face while trying to save a polluted river.

Rounding off the marathon will be two entertainers – Jeethu Joseph’s Mr and Ms Rowdy on July 4 and Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan’s Kuttymama on July 7. The former revolves around Appu (Kalidas Jayaram) and his group of friends, who are small-time goons wanting to make it big as rowdies. Things take a turn when they come across a girl during one of their ‘quotations’.

Director VM Vinu’s Kuttymama, another family entertainer, revolves around a retired military personnel, who has become a nuisance to those in his villages because of his gimmicks and blunders. But certain events prompt the whole country to look up at him.

All these movies will be available with English subtitles too.
