Kamal Haasan in Vikram
It's been 10 days since Lokesh Kanagaraj's Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan, has hit the screens. The action thriller, which opened to unanimous positive reviews from moviegoers, has been setting the cash registers ringing from day one. The box office performance of the film exceeded the expectations of trade pundits, and has already become the highest grossing film of Kamal.
The movie has been smashing records left, right and centre in many territories. Vikram is currently the numero uno Tamil film of this year, outsmarting the box office figures of big ticket projects like Valimai, Beast and KGF 2.
The movie produced by Raaj Kamal Films International has reportedly grossed more than ₹120 crores in Tamil Nadu alone. It has crossed ₹10 crores at the Chennai box office; this is the first Kamal Haasan-starrer to achieve the feat. A few days ago, it became the biggest Tamil grosser ever in Kerala, where the star has been enjoying a dedicated following since the 80s.
Vikram has grossed around ₹25 crores till date from both the Telugu states; the success meet of the film was held recently which was attended by distributors of the Tollywood version.
The film, starring Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil and Chemban Vinod in lead roles, apart from a remarkable cameo by Suriya, has grossed $2.5M from the US box office. It is expected to surpass the Tamil version of KGF 2 to become the biggest Kollywood hit in Malaysia soon. Reportedly, the movie has grossed more than MYR 8M in the country.
Australia and the UK are a few other countries where the film has been doing humongous business. According to sources, Vikram has collected more than ₹12 crores combined from the two countries. Kollywood movie buffs are now looking forward to the film's theatrical collection in the long run.
