Kamal Haasan in Vikram
With less than two days left for the much-awaited OTT premiere of Vikram, fans of Kamal Haasan have one more reason to rejoice. The blockbuster film is said to have earned ₹300 crores only from domestic box office. The action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj amassed more than ₹100 crores from overseas markets.
The film emerged as the highest grossing movie in Tamil Nadu a couple of weeks ago. It is also the biggest Tamil hit in a few territories like Kerala and GCC. The movie has performed exceptionally well in Malaysia and Singapore among other places as well, and surpassed the second biggest hit of Kamal by a huge margin.
According to an article that appeared in Mint, Vikram's collection stands at ₹400.2 crores from across the world until Julne 29. The movie's pirated version was leaked yesterday even as fans were waiting with bated breath to catch Vikram on July 8 on Disney+ Hotstar.
The huge success of the film is expected to be reflected in the opening collection of the next films of both Kamal Haasan and Lokesh. While the former's next is likely to be Shankar's Indian 2, the latter has planned his upcoming project with Vijay, titled Thalapathy 67.
Anbariv's action choreography and Anirudh's background score are the two aspects which garnered unanimous positive response for the movie, apart from engaging performances of Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil, Gayathrie and Narain among others. Suriya's cameo in the climax was the icing on the cake.
Movie buffs are now looking forward to the universe Lokesh has created in Vikram. The sequel to Vikram and the director's earlier project Kaithi which are expected to release in the coming years will be having a never-before-seen reception, thanks to the screenplay which brought characters of both the movies in Vikram.
