In a recent media discussion, Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan noted that while he can even tolerate a "stupid film" because he loves "moving pictures", he can't stand "propaganda films."

"Lies which will divide people. That's the genre that I'm dead against because that's propaganda," he said.

Singer Chinmayi slams Kamal Haasan's 'silence' in Twitter outburst, triggers online backlash

"I told you, it's propagandist films that I am against. It's not enough if you write 'true story' just at the bottom as a logo. It has to really be true and that is not true," he added.

The Kerala Story courted a lot of controversy after the movie claimed that the movie was inspired by the suffering of "32,000" women in Kerala, who were brainwashed, converted and joined ISIS. Amid a massive outrage, the filmmakers tweaked the description and said the movie was inspired by the life of "3 Malayali women." Since its release, the movie has been subjected to a lot of scrutiny.

Earlier, even 2018 movie star Tovino Thomas also slammed The Kerala Story for exaggerating the incidents. "As far as I know there are 35 million people in Kerala and with these three incidents, nobody can generalise it. I’ll not deny the fact that this happened in Kerala. This might have happened. I don’t personally know it but I have read it in news," he said earlier in an interview.

Written and directed by Sudipto Sen, The Kerala Story, however, made a lot of money at the box office. The movie has raked in more than Rs 200 crore in global ticket sales, making it one of the highest-grossing Hindi movies, second only to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan.

Meanwhile, Kamal has multiple projects in the pipeline. He will soon join hands with director Mani Ratnam, who is basking in the success of Ponniyin Selvan 2. Besides acting in it, Kamal will also be co-producing the upcoming movie with Mani Ratnam.

Kamal's most-awaited movie Indian 2 is in the last leg of the production. And the movie is due in cinemas early in January next year.
