The Maamannan actor's recent comment calling for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma, had sparked controversy
Actor-turned-politician Udhayanidhi Stalin has been in the eye of a storm ever since he made the comment that Sanatana Dharma was against social justice and equality. Speaking at a Sanatana Dharma conference in Tamil Nadu recently, the Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, stated that he vehemently opposed the principles of the Sanatana Dharma which discriminated against people on several grounds.
Kamal Haasan lends his support to Udhayanidhi Stalin
Actor Kamal Haasan had stated that Udhayanidhi Stalin was entitled to his views. Taking to his social media handle, the Indian actor stated, "The hallmark of a true democracy is the ability of its citizens to disagree and engage in continued discussion. History has repeatedly taught us that asking the right questions has led to important answers and contributed to our development as a better society."
He stated that if one disagreed with someone's point, they should engage in a discussion rather than resorting to violence. It is to be noted that an Ayodhya seer had offered Rs 10 crore reward to behead Udhayanidhi Stalin for his remarks. Kamal Haasan wrote, "@Udhaystalin is entitled to his views on Sanatana. If you disagree with his viewpoint, it is important to engage in a discussion based on the merits of Sanatana instead of resorting to threats of violence or legal intimidation tactics, or distorting his words to evoke emotional responses for narrow political gains."
He added, "Tamil Nadu has always been a safe space for healthy debates, and it will continue to remain so. It is crucial to critically evaluate our traditions, ensuring inclusivity, equality, and progress. Let's embrace constructive discussions to foster a harmonious and inclusive society."
Udhayandhi Stalin stands by his remark
Unfazed by all the threats he has been facing after the remark, the Maamannan actor stated that he stood by his remark and he strongly believed in it. He added that he never called for a 'genocide' of any community after his comments were misinterpreted by many.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin stated that Udhayanidhi spoke for the oppressed and that the BJP was using the same as a diversionary tactic from the real issues on the ground.
