Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam rope in this seasoned star to replace Jayam Ravi in Thug Life

Owing to the conflicting shooting schedules, Jayam Ravi has reportedly chosen to opt out of Thug Life. And the filmmakers have already zeroed in on an actor to replace him.

The production of Thug Life is going on at its own pace amid rapid changes to its originally announced main cast . Headlined by Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, the film is written and directed by Mani Ratnam.

Earlier, the filmmakers had announced that actor Jayam Ravi will play a key role in the film, which is touted to be set against the backdrop of a dystopian world. Jayam Ravi also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity for what can be described as a dream collaboration. However, things didn't pan out as planned.

Owing to the conflicting shooting schedules, Jayam Ravi has reportedly chosen to opt out of the project. And the filmmakers have already zeroed in on an actor to replace him.

Arvind Swamy and Mani Ratnam's collaboration

According to industry sources, seasoned actor Arvind Swamy has been tapped to play the role, which was earlier earmarked for Jayam Ravi. An official confirmation on the same is awaited.

Back in the day, Arvind Swamy frequently collaborated with Mani Ratnam. Arvind made his big screen debut in 1991 with Mani Ratnam's cult classic Thalapathi. In the gangster drama, inspired by Mahabharata, he played the role of a straight-shooting collector, who was also the step-brother of a dreaded criminal, played by Superstar Rajinikanth.

Arvind was an instant hit and he further solidified his position in the Tamil film industry with movies like Roja and Bombay. Both, directed by Mani Ratnam, were critical and commercial hits.

After 2006, Arvind took a long hiatus from acting for personal reasons. he marked his big screen comeback in 2013 with Mani Ratnam's Kadal. In his second innings, he has become more versatile in showing his willingness to embrace all shades of human experience. With the blockbuster success of Thani Oruvan in 2015, Arvind became the most sought-after actor to essay the role of an ultra-stylish villain.
