Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan has completed 64 years in the film industry. The 68-year-old actor made his debut as a child artiste in Kalathur Kannamma (1960) and is now awaiting the release of Indian 2, directed by Shankar. On the special occasion, Kamal Haasan took to this social media handle to thank everyone and penned a note in Tamil.
It roughly translates to, "To wish someone to live for 64 years is a great blessing. The fact that it is not a blessing for my body but for my artistic life is a blessing that many more talented people than me haven't got. I humbly bow my head down and thank all those who congratulated me. The remaining days are for my people (sic)."
Kamal Haasan took the plunge into cinema with Kalathur Kannamma, which was directed by the legendary filmmaker Bhim Singh, and starred Gemini Ganesan and Savitri in the lead. Kamal Haasan played the son of the lead couple and grows up as an orphan as his parents go their separate ways. His performance as the young boy Selvam made him an overnight sensation.
After a series of roles as a child artiste, Kamal Haasan 's breakthrough as a lead actor happened in Apoorva Raagangal (1975), directed by K Balachander. He played a rebel and a young man who falls in love with an older woman. He went on to act in a number of films in different genres and is considered a doyen in the cinema industry today.
Meanwhile wishes have been pouring in for the actor from across the industry and others.
On the film front, Kamal Haasan is awaiting the release of Indian 2. The post production is in full swing and the Ulaganayagan will be reprising his iconic character Senapathy in the film. After Indian, Kamal Haasan is all set to team up with Mani Ratnam after a span of 35 years and director H Vinoth of Thunivu fame.
