Kamal Haasan’s role in Kalki 2898 AD is not inspired by Voldemort

In a recent interview with Zoom, Nag Ashwin revealed that he has indeed taken inspirations from Western films, for his passion project. However, the talented filmmaker denied taking inspiration from Voldemort of the Harry Potter franchise, for Kamal Haasan’s character Supreme Yaskin. According to the director, their references for Yaskin were the old Tibetan monks, who are supposed to be 120–130 years old. Kamal Haasan always mentioned the portrait of Dorian Gray (from the 1890 philosophical novel The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, which was the actor's inspiration.

However, they didn't have many film references for the ancient look of Supreme Yaskin. But Nag Ashwin took inspiration from the Harry Potter franchise while naming the character played by Vinay Kumar. The character Sirius, played by Vinay in Kalki 2898 AD, is named after Sirius Black (played by popular actor Gary Oldman in the film), the Godfather of Harry Potter and one of the marauders.
