Kakuda's new achievement unlocked.
Sonakshi Sinha and Riteish Deshmukh's film Kakuda had its digital premiere on ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium on July 12, 2024. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film's storyline is about the cursed village of Ratodi, where people have to keep a small door open at 7.15 pm on Tuesday for Kakuda. Kakuda, also starring Saqib Saleem and Aasif Khan, has achieved two milestones within four days of its release on the streaming platform.
The streamer shared an update about Kakuda's new achievement on social media. The makers revealed that the Aditya Sarpotdar directorial is now the "number 1 most searched comedy on Google." Sharing a new poster of the film along with its new feat, ZEE5 mentioned, "Kakuda is hilariously making his way to the top and to everyone's hearts! Kakuda streaming now, only on ZEE5 (sic)."
In Kakuda, Sonakshi Sinha plays the double role of Indira and Gomati. She seeks help from ghost hunter Victor (Riteish Deshmukh) to save her husband Sunny (Saqib Saleem) from Kakuda. The film has been produced by Ronnie Screwvala under his production banner, RSVP Movies.
In an interview with Firstpost, filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar said he wanted a unique star cast for Kakuda. He wanted a group of people who did a bit of comedy but never explored horror comedy.
Talking about Sonakshi's double role in the film, the director added, "So when we approached her, she had not done Heeramandi. So for us, it was like a very unique (factor) in the film. Also, the fact that she plays a character who wants to save her husband. So for me, it was something that really went well with the way I felt that she could carry it really well."
