Kaithi 2 is a ‘peak LCU’ film; Lokesh Kanagaraj drops major updates on Karthi starrer

Lokesh Kanagaraj recently confirmed that he will kickstart Karthi starrer Kaithi 2, immediately after wrapping up Coolie, the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer, which is a standalone film.

Lokesh Kanagaraj established himself as one of the most sought-after filmmakers of South cinema, with back-to-back blockbusters. The director, who is now busy with the making of his sixth film, Coolie successfully established a crime cinema universe in Tamil, which is named ‘Lokesh Cinematic Universe’ aka LCU, by the cinephiles. In a recent interaction with the media at an event, Lokesh Kanagaraj opened up about Kaithi 2, the sequel to his 2019-released Karthi starrer, and stated that it will be a ‘peak LCU’ film.

The hitmaker, who recently interacted with the audiences and media at an event, extensively spoke about the future of LCU films. Interestingly, Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed that he is planning to make a ‘peak LCU’ film with Kaithi 2, which is a sequel to the 2019-released Karthi starrer. The talented director revealed that all major characters from the cinematic universe would make an appearance in the upcoming Karthi starrer. Lokesh Kanagaraj’s revelation has now left the LCU fans, highly excited.

If things go as planned, Kaithi 2 will start rolling by mid-2025, immediately after the release of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s upcoming project Coolie. Karthi is confirmed to reprise the celebrated character Dilli from the original in the upcoming sequel. Narain, Harish Uthaman, Arjun Das, George Maryan, and others, who were a part of the original film, are also expected to reprise their respective roles in the sequel. Kamal Haasan, Suriya, and Thalapathy Vijay, the other LCU members, are expected to make special appearances.

If you wish to revisit Kaithi, the original Tamil version of the 2019-released blockbuster is currently available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. The Hindi dubbed version of the Karthi starrer can be streamed on Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium.

Coolie is NOT an LCU film, confirms Lokesh Kanagaraj

In a recent chat with the media, Lokesh Kanagaraj also confirmed that Coolie is not an LCU film, as the fans speculated. According to the filmmaker, the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer is a standalone film that has no connection with the crime universe established by Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo. Earlier, it was reported that the movie, which is also a crime thriller, will have some fantasy elements in it. More updates on the same are expected to be out soon.
