R Chandru will direct two of the five films he has announced, including Kabzaa 2: War Begins, and will serve as producer on the other three
Kannada filmmaker R Chandru’s Kabzaa may not have had the result he was expecting and ended up being widely panned, but he is far from seeing that as a setback. It’s a minor crash on the way to bigger and better things, he reckons, as he launched his production wing, RC Studios, in association with Anand Pandit and Alankar Pandian of Invenio Origin. RC Studios will, over the next five years, present five pan-India films, two of which will be directed by Chandru.
Karnataka State Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched the titles of the five films that will be produced by RC Studios, namely Dog, POK, Sri Ramabana Charitha, Father, Kabzaa 2. Speaking at the event, Anand Pandit, said that he decided to come and support Chandru’s new venture because of the amazing experience he had collaborating on Kabzaa. He admitted that although Kabzaa was not well received in the Hindi version, which he presented, he is excited about working on Kabzaa 2.

RC Studios’ POK and Kabzaa 2 will be directed by Chandru, while the other three will introduce new filmmakers to the Kannada film industry. Chandru is hopeful of releasing all five films in 2024 or in early 2025. Chandru had earlier announced that he would direct a ‘global’ film with Kiccha Sudeep in the lead. POK is likely to be that film.

As for Kabzaa, Chandru said that it was his attempt at doing something special, which was not a failure but a small crash along the way. The filmmaker said that he has paid Rs 20 crore as tax, which is testament that the film did not fail as miserably as it is being made out to be.
Incidentally, Chandru’s Kabzaa is widely seen as the film that has ruined the prospects of Kannada cinema with mainstream OTT platforms, something that even Century Star Shivarajkumar, who acted in the film in a cameo and was to lead Kabzaa 2, has admitted.
