The Real Star, who has worked with Vishal on Satyam, was in the city to promote his film, which will be in theatres on March 17
Namma Real Star Upendra was in Chennai today, for the pre-release event of his film Kabzaa. Not long ago, the actor was in the city when the song Namaami Namaami was launched, but this time it was different, because the film is only days away. Speaking about his connection with Chennai, Upendra reminisced that his directorial A had released in the city, although it did not get as big an outing as it did in Andhra Pradesh back then.
“I would love to do a straight Tamil film at some point,” said Upendra, adding that he has no issues working in another language, referring to the fact that he’s worked with Vishal on Satyam 15 years ago. “I have been listening to scripts and am hopeful of returning to the city soon with news about a Tamil film. Right now, I am in the middle of directing my next, UI, so, after I am done with it, you can expect an announcement,” he said.
Kabzaa, which has been produced and directed by R Chandru, and co-produced by Alankar Pandian’s Invenio Origin, is being distributed by Lyca Productions in Tamil Nadu. Kabzaa is the first Kannada film distributed by the production house.
The film is a gangster tale with Upendra in the lead. He is paired with Shriya Saran, while Sudeep and Shivarajkumar have pivotal cameos in the film. A vast ensemble cast including Nawab Shah, Kabir Duhan Singh, John Kokken, Kota Srinivas Rao, Posani Murali Krishna, Murali Sharma, Anoop Revanna, Suneel Puranik and Danish Akthar Saifi, among others, is in Kabzaa. The film boasts AJ Shetty as cinematographer, Ravi Basrur as composer and Shivakumar as art director, all three of who have worked on the KGF saga, which Chandru has stated was his biggest inspiration in making Kabzaa.
