Actress Jyothika opined that the silence in Jeo Baby’s Kaathal- The Core conveys more about the emotions of the story than any dialogue does. She went on to say that this is what greatly enhances the beauty of the film. The actress made this comment during The Film Companion Actors’ Adda 2023 interview.

Jyothika made a comeback to the Malayalam industry with Kaathal, starring opposite Mammootty. "Despite the fact that Matthew Devassy and Omana did not touch or hold each other, I sensed a strong chemistry between them. For me, Kaathal was definitely an eye-opener. There are a lot of unspoken things that go into the dynamics between each character in this movie,” she said.

The Mozhi actress added that she always feels confident the first day of filming because she memorises the lines the day before. Jyothika made her Malayalam debut with Priyadarshan's Raakilipaatu in 2007.

Working with Mammootty

Mammootty was hailed by Jyothika as a true hero. "I had questioned him, 'Why did you accept this role?' prior to the start of Kaathal filming. I was told in response that a hero is more than just a person who hits people and displays courage. He is someone who tries different roles and gets into the act," she remarked.

She continued by saying that although the actor, who is also the film's producer, had a lot to lose if things didn't work out, he gave it his best shot.

Challenges in the industry

Regarding the challenges encountered by women in the industry, Jyothika observed that the struggle is distinct for them in the South. "You have fewer options in the industry as you get older, and even if you're doing well in films, you're still typecast," she added.

The actress voiced her belief that female characters should have the same freedom to portray who they are, regardless of whether that is a good or bad thing. "In every movie I have ever done, I have only portrayed acceptable and ideal characters. Mostly, there was not any space for grey components. I have decided over the past 10 years to represent women in my films as strong and confident women," she stated.

"As women, we often have to say no to a lot of things that do not make sense to us, and I believe it is acceptable to do so. It's a lovely journey with its share of highs and lows,” she added.
