The producers of Kaathal – The Core, starring Mammootty and Jyothika in the lead roles, delayed the film's OTT release till it completed 50 days in theatres.
It won't be wrong to say that Kaathal – The Core is one of the highly anticipated releases in the OTT spectrum. Typically, the majority of South Indian movies with a top star cast will arrive on streaming in fewer than four weeks. However, the producers of Kaathal – The Core delayed the film's digital release till it completed 50 days in theatres.
Kaathal – The Core made its OTT debut on Thursday. Earlier in the day, it was only available for streaming on a rental basis on Amazon Prime Video for viewers in the USA regions. However, later in the day, Malayalam superstar Mammootty confirmed that it will start streaming for global audiences on the same platform on January 5.

Earlier, speculations were rife about JioCinema trying to buy Kaathal – The Core to exclusively and directly release the film on its platform. However, Mammootty, who is also the film's producer, was determined to release it in theatres first.
In the post-pandemic era, intimate films that explore the intricacies of relationships with heightened sensibilities are considered unworthy of theatrical viewing. Only movies with big action sequences and plenty of visuals of violent bloodshed are touted to be suited for a theatrical release.

Mammootty braved the trend and challenged the emerging notion by sticking to the theatrical window for Kaathal - The Core. Besides garnering unanimous appreciation from movie buffs across the country, it also emerged as a hit at the box office.
In Kaathal - The Core, Mammootty essays the role of a closeted gay man, who is forced to come out and learn the virtue of self-acceptance after his wife Omana (Jyothika) files for divorce. The film is helmed by Jeo Baby and it also stars Sudhi Kozhikode, Pooja Mohanraj, and RS Panickar among others.
