Mammootty and Jyothika’s highly anticipated film Kaathal-The Core is now out in the digital space. The film, which is directed by The Great Indian Kitchen-fame Jeo Baby, is available on Amazon Prime. The movie hit the big screen on November 23.
In this family drama, Mammootty plays retired bank manager Mathew Devassy, an independent candidate running for panchayat. In a long-awaited comeback to Malayalam cinema, Jyotika plays Omana, Mathew's wife. The pair plays a couple in conflict in the movie, which, among other things, looks at family dynamics.

The film revolves around Mathew, a closed-minded homosexual who marries Omana against social norms and raises a family with her for twenty years. When she files for divorce, citing his cruelty and sexual orientation, this idyllic picture of his family crumbles. The main focus of the movie seems to be on how people respond to this revelation.
Kaathal-The Core is produced by Mammootty’s home banner, Mammootty Kampany, and distributed by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. The ensemble cast of the film includes Joji John, Sudhi Kozhikode, Alex Alister, Anagha Akku, Chinnu Chandni, and Muthumani, among others. Mathews Pulickan has composed the soundtracks for this film. Salu K Thomas is the cinematographer. Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria have written the screenplay for this movie, which was critically acclaimed as well as a box office hit.

Applauds for Mammootty’s performance
The audience praised the actor for his performance in Kaathal-The Core, following a wide range of roles, including those in Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, Rorschach, Bheeshma Parvam, Kannur Squad, Peranbu, and Puzhu, recently. Movie buffs were also taken aback when an apparent plot summary of this film appeared on social media before its release.
However, opinions among netizens regarding this plot were divided. The moral police were raising alarms at the mere mention of homosexuality, despite the fact that many praised Mammootty for his boldness in accepting such a role and his choice of scripts in the past few years.
