A few days ago, Challenging Star Darshan and his team of Kaatera gave his fans a very pleasant surprise. The Kannada superstar is set to close out the year with his film in theatres. Darshan, who had the year’s first major release when he brought Kranti to theatres along with Pathaan, did not manage to set the cash registers ringing, which he will look at rectifying with Kaatera. Produced by Rockline Venkatesh, Kaatera, we hear, is all set for its theatrical run, having closed post-theatrical deals too. The film has its digital and satellite partner on board, with Zee Network bagging the deal. Kaatera will, therefore, head to Zee5 Kannada after its theatrical run. It is too early to speculate a date, but it would be safe to assume that it could land on the platform between the 30-45 day mark.

Directed by Tharun Sudhir, who made Roberrt with Darshan earlier, Kaatera will hit theatres across Karnataka on December 29, only a week after the much-awaited Prabhas-starrer Salaar and Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki. The film is the launchpad of Aradhana Ram (initially launched as Radhana Ram), the daughter of veteran actress Malashree and late producer Koti Ramu. It also stars Kumar Govind, Jagapati Babu, and Shruti in pivotal roles and is a period film set in the 70s. Darshan has promised that his fans will get to see a never-before-seen avatar of his in the film.

#D56 is Kaatera after all; poster has netizens wondering if it is the remake of Dhanush’s Karnan

According to Tharun, Kaatera is inspired by a real-life incident and is based on a pertinent issue about the agricultural sector. It must be noted that this year’s Naveen Shankar starrer Kshetrapati was also based on the agrarian sector, but did not work at the box office. Darshan’s film, which has music by V Harikrishna, is said to be action-packed, which should work for his fans, despite the serious nature of the subject. The actor, meanwhile, has already moved on to his next, which sees him reunite with Tarak maker Milana Prakash.
