Even after having been in the industry for many years, the veteran actor Anupam Kher still approaches every role as if it is his first film! The same amount of unparalleled dedication, passion and sincerity can be seen in every role he plays. This week’s release Kaagaz 2 is no different! The film, which stars him along with his real-life best friend Satish Kaushik, serves as a fitting tribute to the latter. Even though the veteran actor Satish Kaushik is no longer around us, his infectious work continues to linger even today everywhere in the form of Kaagaz 2.

OTTplay caught up with Anupam Kher for an exclusive interview. Here are the excerpts:

Anupamji, you are someone who has ‘been there, done that’ in a lawyer’s role in umpteen films till date. Was there any special preparation/s that you did for this particular film?
I wanted my character to come across as not the typical courtroom drama, like the ones we are used to… like having louder voices that challenge and things like that. That's why, one will notice that there is no place wherein I go five pitches as there was no need for my character to do so.

There was no extra drama because the drama was in the project and the story. That is the preparation that I did. To play my role as realistically as possible and to play it as a believable person.

How was your experience working in the film? While on one hand, you have legends like yourself, Satish Kaushik, Neena Gupta, Karan Razdan and on the other hand, you have actors like Darshan Kumaar and Smriti Kalra from the younger generation. Do you feel that Bollywood is in safe hands now?
I don’t think like that. I stick to the premise of the story. I don't think of individuals. I only think of everyone as characters in the film. I have never thought of anyone as a newcomer as I see everyone as a part of the story. As for the girl Smriti Kalra, she has done an excellent role in the film and I feel that this is Darshan Kumaar’s finest performance. He totally looks the part.

You had Satish Kaushik’s daughter Vanshika and his wife Shashi Kaushik during the first screening of Kaagaz 2. How was the whole experience?
They are family and I feel protective towards them. It's an emotional connection that we share with each other.

What has been your biggest takeaway from Kaagaz 2?
My biggest takeaway from the film is that we need to get rid of these issues where somebody's individual tragedy can affect or impact for the rest of your life. Also, the memories of the days that I spent with Satish (Kaushik) will remain evergreen.

You are someone who has spent the most time with the late Satish Kaushik. If you had to describe him in one word or a sentence, what would that be?
Satish just cannot be described in one word or a sentence!

Three reasons for the audiences to watch Kaagaz 2?
The incident shown in the film can just happen to anyone. One needs to raise their voices against these things. And, moreover, the most important thing is that it's a tribute to Satish Kaushik.

What next after Kaagaz 2?
There are lots of things that are in the pipeline. You will get to hear about it very soon!
